Use the questions in the weekly planner to help you start a conversation about the big picture story. Here is an example of a conversation you and your child could have. You: What is everyone doing at the market? Child: The man and woman are eating. You: Yes, it looks like they’re eating hamburgers and drinking cooldrink from a can. I wonder what else they will do after they have their lunch. What do you think? Child: I see a man selling fruit and vegetables. You: Yes, I see he is selling apples, oranges and tomatoes. If we were at the market, I’d like to buy some oranges, they’re my favourite. What would you like to buy from him? Give your own ideas and feelings about what you see as well.

Kind: Ek sien ’n man wat vrugte en groente verkoop. Jy: Ja, ek sien hy verkoop appels, lemoene en tamaties. As ons by die mark was, sou ek lemoene gekoop het – ek is mal oor lemoene. Wat sou jy by hom wou koop? Vertel ook vir jou kind wat jy dink en voel oor dit wat jy sien.
