Writing and drawing takes thinking and planning, it is fun for children and is real brain work.

The first time a child starts drawing, they may just make marks on the paper. Encourage and support your child at this stage. Help your child to think about what they want to draw and then let them have a try. They may use scribbles and markings that represent letters and this is as it should be. Talk to your child about their drawings and their writing attempts. This will help to build your child’s vocabulary and also give them a chance to feel proud of what they have done.

Wanneer kinders vir die eerste keer begin teken, maak hulle gewoonlik net merke op die papier. Dit is belangrik om kinders in hierdie fase aan te moedig en te ondersteun. Help jou kind om na te dink oor dít wat hulle wil teken en laat hulle probeer. Hulle maak dalk krabbels en merke om letters voor te stel, en dit is hoe dit moet wees. Gesels met jou kind oor hul tekeninge en skryfpogings. Dit sal jou kind se woordeskat uitbrei en hulle ’n kans gee om trots te voel op wat hulle gedoen het.
