Message 9
Talk to your child about the colours and shapes that they see around them in their environment. Explain to them that different colours, objects and shapes arranged in a repeated way can make a pattern.

Follow the instructions on the shape pattern template. Help your child name the different shapes and recognise the simple pattern. You could say, “Can you see the pattern? Tell me what you see.” “Yes, you’re right there’s a triangle, a square, a triangle, a square and another triangle.” Then you could say, “Now colour in the shapes to make your pattern more interesting.” Once they have done this you could say, “Let’s talk about the pattern that you have coloured in. Can you describe your pattern? What colours did you use?”

Khawundixelele ngokubonayo.” “Ewe, unyanisile, kukho unxantathu, isikwere, unxantathu, isikwere nomnye unxantathu.” Ungaqhuba uthi, “Ngoku ke faka umbala kwiimilo wenze ipateni yakho ibe nomtsalane ngakumbi.” Akuba ekwenzile oku, usenokuthi, “Masikhe sincokole ke ngoku ngepateni yakho oyifake umbala. Ungakwazi ukundichazela ngayo? Yiyiphi imibala oyisebenzisileyo?”

Gesels met jou kind oor die kleure en vorms wat hulle in hul omgewing sien. Verduidelik dat verskillende kleure, voorwerpe en vorms wat op ’n herhalende manier gerangskik is, ’n patroon kan vorm.

Vertel my wat jy sien.” “Ja, jy is reg, daar is ’n driehoek,’n vierkant, ’n driehoek, ’n vierkant en nog ’n driehoek.” Nou kan jy sê: “Kleur nou die vorms in om jou patroon interessanter te maak.” Nadat jou kind dit gedoen het, kan jy sê: “Kom ons gesels oor die patroon wat jy ingekleur het. Kan jy jou patroon beskryf? Watter kleure het jy gebruik?”
