Granny’s Trick is a fun story. You can have such fun laughing and playing tricks together with your family. Enjoy talking about the story after you have read it to your child.

After reading the story, give your child a chance to talk about the story. When they answer “yes” or “no” to questions, encourage further conversation. For example, you could say to your child, “You said, ‘Yes’. That’s very good. Tell me why you say that?”
Or you could say, “I agree. Now tell me why you think that.”
Or you could say, “You said, ‘No’. That’s interesting. Please tell me more.”
This will encourage your child to think about the story and give them a chance to express their own thoughts, ideas and feelings.

Emva kokufunda ibali, nika umntwana wakho ithuba lokuncokola ngebali. Xa impendulo yakhe yombuzo ingu “ewe” okanye u “hayi”, mkhuthaze ukuba ayixhase impendulo yakhe ngesizathu. Umzekelo, usenokuthi kuye, “Uthe, ‘Ewe’. Wenze kakuhle kakhulu. Khawundichazele ke ukuba kutheni usitsho njalo?
Okanye usenokuthi, “Ndivumelana nawe. Ngoku ke khawundichazele ukuba kutheni ucinga ngolo hlobo.”
Okanye usenokuthi, “Uthe, ‘Hayi’. Inika umdla le mpendulo yakho. Khawukhe unabe.”

Gee jou kind kans om oor die storie te gesels nadat julle dit gelees het. Moedig verdere gesprek aan as hy “ja” of “nee” op vrae antwoord. Jy kan byvoorbeeld vir jou kind sê, “Jy het ‘Ja’ gesê. Baie goed! Vertel my hoekom jy dit gesê het.”
Jy kan ook sê, “Ek stem saam. Vertel nou vir my hoekom jy so dink.”
Of jy kan sê, “Jy het ‘Nee’ gesê. Dit is interessant. Vertel my meer.”
Dit sal jou kind aanmoedig om oor die storie na te dink en hom ʼn kans gee om sy eie gedagtes, idees en gevoelens uit te druk.
