Play the ordinal numbers game with your child. Then try to use ordinal numbers during your everyday interactions.

Ordinal numbers show the order or position in which things are lined up or set out, for example first, second, third. When you and your child play the ordinal numbers game they may not know all the words that describe the positions, for example sixth, seventh, eighth.

Use these words during the game but don’t expect your child to remember all of them straight away. The emphasis is on them understanding that things in different positions or order will have a different ordinal number name.
Practice these words during everyday activities. For example, “You wash first and then your sister will wash second.” “Let’s count in which order the family members arrive at the table to eat.” “Please pack away the dishes in this order: First the plates, second the cups, third the spoons, fourth the forks.”

Ordinaalgetalle wys die volgorde of posisie waarin dinge opgestel of uiteengesit is, byvoorbeeld eerste, tweede en derde.
