This activity is a fun way to help your child listen carefully. When you give your child a chance to ask questions, they get a chance to think carefully too.

Collect objects that are safe for your child to handle. Give your child these three clues for every object you describe: Where in the house it can be found. What it is used for. The sound you hear at the beginning of the word. If they need more clues, help your child to ask you questions like “Is it hard? Soft? Fluffy? Prickly? Cold? Smooth? Rough?” After taking the object out of the bag, a fun question could be, “What else could it be used for?” What a great way to build your child’s vocabulary!

Gee vir jou kind hierdie drie leidrade vir elke voorwerp wat jy beskryf: Waar in die huis dit gevind kan word Waarvoor dit gebruik word Die klank wat jy aan die begin van die woord hoor. As jou kind nog leidrade benodig, kan jy hom help om vir jou vrae te vra, soos “Is dit hard? Sag? Wollerig? Stekelrig? Koud? Glad? Grof?” Nadat jou kind die voorwerpe uit die sak gehaal het, kan ʼn prettige vraag wees: “Waarvoor kan dit nog gebruik word?” Wat ʼn wonderlike manier om jou kind se woordeskat uit te brei!
