Message 1

Help your child try and write the first sounds they hear in words. Remember, it takes a lot of practice for children to form their letters correctly so be patient and acknowledge all their writing attempts.

Help your child write words for the things they have drawn. Say, “What sound do you hear at the beginning of that word? Do you know what that letter looks like? Have a go and try to write it.” If your child doesn’t get the letter correct, always acknowledge their efforts. You could say, “What a good try! Can you try to write the rest of the word?“ Don’t force your child to write if you can see they are getting anxious. Rather offer to write the word for them.

Mncedise umntwana wakho azame ukubhala izandi zokuqala aziva xa kubizwa amagama. Khumbula, ukuze umntwana wakho ababhale ngokuchanekileyo oonobumba, kufuneka aziqhelanise rhoqo ngoko ke kufuneka ube nomonde futhi uyincome imizamo yakhe yokubhala.

Mncedise umntwana wakho abhale malunga nezinto azizobileyo. Yithi, “Ingaba sisiphi isandi eligxile kuso ela gama? Ingaba uyamazi ukuba ukhangeleka njani laa nobumba? Khawukhe uzame ukumbhala.” Ukuba akambhali ngokuchanekileyo unobumba umntwana, mncome ngemizamo yakhe. Usenokuthi kuye, “Uzamile! Ungakwazi ukuzama ulibhale lonke igama?” Musa ukumnyanzela ukuba abhale xa umbona ukuba unexhala. Ungambhalela ngokwakho igama.

Help jou kind om die eerste klanke te skryf wat hulle in woorde hoor. Onthou, dit verg baie oefening vir kinders om te leer om letters reg te vorm. Wees dus geduldig en prys hulle skryf pogings.

Help jou kind om woorde te skryf vir die dinge wat sy/hy geteken het. Sê, “Watter klank hoor jy aan die begin van daardie woord? Weet jy hoe daardie letter lyk? Probeer bietjie om dit te skryf.” Prys altyd die kind se pogings, selfs al skryf die kind nie die letter reg nie. Jy kan sê, “Mooi probeer! Kan jy probeer om die res van die woord te skryf?” Moenie jou kind dwing om te skryf as jy sien hulle raak angstig nie. Skryf dan eerder die woord vir hulle.
