Learning to listen to a set of instructions is a skill that needs lots of practice.

Some of the questions about the Big picture story have more than one part to them, for example: ‘There are 6 birds in the sky. We can see 4 of them through the window. How many birds can’t we see?’ To help your child, read the instructions through once slowly. Then read each of the parts of the question making sure your child understands each part. If your child struggles, use the pictures on the big picture, their fingers or items like stones, bottle tops or counters to represent the items in the questions.

Party vrae oor die Groot prent-storie behels meer as een deel, byvoorbeeld: ‘Daar is 6 voëls in die lug. Ons kan 4 deur die venster sien. Hoeveel voëls kan ons nie sien nie?’ Help jou kind deur die instruksies een keer stadig te lees. Lees dan elke deel van die vraag, en maak seker jou kind verstaan elke deel. As jou kind sukkel, gebruik die prente op die plakkaat, sy vingers of items soos klippies, botteldoppies of tellers om die items in die vrae voor te stel.
